Timing is everything! When we look back over our lives, we can often see the alignment of various factors that led to significant change, major decisions, significant loss or completely new directions. Many times the contributing factors are well beyond our control. However, with our Lord Jesus Christ, that is not so! Christ knew the perfect time—for coming into this world, for revealing himself to humanity, for living, dying and rising again. Those around him often tried to force the timing of things, but Christ faithfully followed his Father’s plan as seen in our sermon text (John 12:20-33). Lord, help us to trust in your timing and faithfully follow your leading. |

March 26, 2023 - Lent 5
Wherever there is life or living creatures, there inevitably follows death at some point. At differing levels, we have all seen or experienced the anguish that comes with death. It brings cruel heartache, tears and the empty hollowness of grief and loss. The biblical account of Lazarus’ failing health and then death (John 11:1-45) sees the familiar story played out. The common tears and grief filled laments are present—”if only” this or that had happened! Praise be to God for our Lord Jesus Christ who rewrites the age old script with a glimpse of the hope that awaits all those joined to him. In a precursor to his own resurrection we see the glorious hope that our Saviour brings into this decaying world. |

March 19, 2023 - Lent 4
There is a well known saying which goes—“There are none so blind as those who will not see”. In other words, people may have perfect physical vision, but still be totally ‘blind’ to spiritual realities, their own failings, or God’s mercy and forgiveness. This reality is lived out in the account of the blind man in John 9:1-41. Let us pray that our Lord Jesus Christ would open our eyes to the truth of his word and his loving action on our behalf. Also, that we would be able to see the world through his eyes—to see ourselves and each other in the way he looks at us. |

March 12, 2023 - Lent 3
Human thirst needs to be quenched! But, what is it that you ‘thirst’ for in life? What do you desire more than anything? Some of those desires may be good and healthy while others may actually lead to our downfall or ultimately keep us separated from God. Our loving God knows our true needs and what will ultimately satisfy us. Our sermon text today (John 4:5-42) looks at the gift of ’living water’ that Christ offers to us—a gift that will well up to eternal life in us. |

March 5, 2023 - Lent 2
How do you like to be loved? And what does real love look like to you? We each have our own preferred ‘love language’ which we enjoy and which demonstrates to us the supposed sincerity of someone’s love for us. However, we can then be disappointed when our expectation is not met! When it comes to God’s love for us, both collectively and personally, many people fall into the trap of applying the same flawed criteria to God: he should love me how I expect to be loved! Our sermon text today (John 3:1-17) speaks to us about the kind of love God has for each person, which is way beyond anything we could humanly imagine, in substance, scope and effect. |

February 19, 2023 - Transfiguration
Theme: You can't live on the mountain! (At least not yet!) The Transfiguration of Jesus must have been an incredible sight to behold for the three disciples that accompanied him. And they certainly didn't want the experience to come to an end! However, Jesus must descend to the 'valley of the shadow of death' - for our sake and our salvation! His glory is hidden for now, but he granted them a glimpse to sustain their hope. His glory is now seen on the cross on which he died for our sins. Lord, be with us in our valleys, darkness and uncertainties, trusting in your voice alone! |

February 5, 2023 - Epiphany 5
Who do you trust? Really trust? Who do you trust with your deepest thoughts, your hopes, your weaknesses, your hidden failings? Sadly we know that many times our trust in another human being can lead to great disappointment or even betrayal. The only one who can be truly trusted is our Lord because he alone is faithful and true! Yet, in our sinfulness, we find it hard to truly trust God and what he has written for us in his perfect word. Even some Christians can end up not believing that he meant what he said, or failing to trust his promises as being sure and certain. In our sermon text today (Luke 5:1-11), Peter was confronted by a question of trust. I pray that you will see you life as one of trust in Jesus Christ and that you would follow as his disciple. |

January 29, 2023 - Epiphany 4
What does the future hold for our country, Australia? What does the future hold for the church in Australia? While we face some truly unique challenges in these changing times, we know that our future is bound up in the person of Jesus Christ. We know that he holds the future in his hands and he calls us to trust in his gracious leading. |

January 22, 2023 - Epiphany 3
One of the saddest things in the Christian community is when we see people drift away from the life of the church and from Christ, with some even losing their faith completely! While God’s gifts are graciously given to us freely, ‘without any merit or worthiness’ on our part, we are still called to receive those gifts in faith and put them to work in our lives for the glory of God and the good of others. The Apostle Paul compares the Christian faith to an athletic event (1 Corinthians 9:24-27) — one that requires discipline and persistence and focus. Knowing that Christ has himself won the prize for us, let us therefore not run aimlessly, but with our eyes fixed on the prize so that we will not be disqualified! |

January 15, 2023 - Epiphany 2
Inviting people to worship with us in the Christian church can be rather daunting. Yet, throughout history, God has used the countless invitations issued to family, friends and neighbours to ‘come and see’, to ultimately grow his church. ‘Come and see’ were the words used by Jesus and his first disciples, as they invited people to meet God’s chosen one, the Messiah. But, what did they and what are we inviting people to hear or see? Our sermon today (John 1:29-42) examines this invitation and it’s significance for us, as we come to see ‘the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”. Help us, Lord, to see who you truly are and what you graciously give us! |

January 1, 2023 - First Sunday after Christmas
As we begin a new year, God's word invites us to reflect on his gift of time (Ecclesiastes 3:1-13) and our use or misuse of it. At just the right time, Christ was born in time and space for our salvation. And he promises to be with us through whatever changing and challenging times may lay ahead. As the psalmist said, 'Lord, our times are in your hands'. |
