RELATIONSHIP with ZION AGED CARE
St Paul’s Lutheran congregation enjoys a long standing relationship with Zion Aged Care - having been the initiator for its existence and a continual supporter of its ministry under Jesus Christ ever since. Holistic care for the well-being of those who are elderly, and particularly their spiritual care, has been an endeavour of the Lutheran Church in Australia since the 1920s.
The relationship between the St Paul’s congregation and Zion Aged Care is most clearly expressed in the weekly worship services conducted in the Zion Chapel area on Sunday mornings. Each week the St Paul’s pastor leads a service for Zion residents including a celebration of Holy Communion. Supplementing this and critical to its success is the pastoral care partnership of the St Paul’s pastor and the Zion chaplain, as they work together to respond to the spiritual needs of individual residents.
Further connection and support is provided by various St Paul’s volunteers at different times (ie elders, lay-readers, worship assistants and musicians). The St Paul's Ladies Guild and individual members of the congregation have also maintained caring connections over many years. This was demonstrated most vividly through the Bargain Shop which provided low cost items for the local community while supporting Zion financially. Many St Paul’s members volunteered in the shop and served faithfully over the 30 year period of its existence.
Zion residents have expressed how thankful they are to have access to weekly worship right at their doorstep. Furthermore they are thankful for the opportunity to have family members and loved ones join them in worship as they are able. The St Paul’s congregation sees this opportunity to provide the precious Word and Spirit-filled sacraments of Jesus Christ as one its core mission privileges!
